Eileen Gray (1878 - 1976)

eileen_gray.jpgEileen Gray was born on August 9th, 1878 in Brownswood, Ireland. She spent her childhood in London and visited as one of the first women at all the Slade School of Art. In 1902 she moved to Paris, into 21st Rue Bonaparte, in 1917 the first article about her appeared in the famous Vouge Magazine.
In 20th and 30th of the last century she became a pioneer at the use of completely new theories within designs and worked together with almost any contemporarily popular artist, among them also Le Corbusier.

After the end of war she worked as a designer at sozio cultural projects up to her end of life, that mainly engaged her in 1946-1949 as well as furniture Design. In 1970, Eileen Grey were more or less forgotten already at this time, her work was rediscovered by the American art collector Robert Walker. In 1972 she was made to a Royal Designer by the Royal Society of Art, London. Eileen Grey died on October 31st, 1976 and found her final resting place at the Père Lachaise cemetry, Paris.
