The world-famous egg armchair, sketched in 1958 by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008. For this occasion the manufacturer Fritz Hansen developed an anniversary model of the design classic, which now is produced in a limited edition of 999 pieces.

The back is equipped with chocolate-brown suede leather, at the front a darker Italian leather and a hand-polished pedestal of solid bronze. The egg received a completely new exclusive touch.

Initially developed for the SAS Royal hotel in Copenhagen, the egg armchair is considered as an international icon. The design is a world renowned design and can be found at exclusive places, for example at the National Art Center in Tokyo.

Dimension

Jacobsen was one of Denmark's most influential 20th century architects and designers. Both his buildings and products combine modernist ideals with a Nordic love of naturalism.

After graduating from university, Arne Jacobsen worked in the architect's office of Paul Holsoe. In 1931 he founded his own design studio, which he directed until his death in 1971. From 1956 onwards he also held a professorship in architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. Arne Jacobsen, who worked in architecture, interior decoration, furniture, textile and porcelain design, stood out in all areas with his clear styling and the successful combination of form and function. Some of his creations became classics even during his lifetime and can be seen in the film '2001 A Space Odyssey'.
